Completing the Stafford Loan Process

Entrance Counseling and Electronic Master Promissory Notes

The first time a student receives a Stafford Loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) while at Bradley University the student borrower (not parent) must complete both steps.

  1. Complete Entrance Counseling online. After learning more about your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, you will be asked to take a brief quiz. You will be asked to print out a copy of the results for your records. To verify completion of the counseling you may be asked to provide a copy of the results to the Student Loan Office.
  2. Sign an Electronic Master Promissory Note (e-MPN). You can receive additional Direct Stafford Loans under your MPN for up to 10 years if you continue to attend school. Your MPN will require two references from different households. You will use your Federal Student Aid PIN number (FAFSA PIN) to complete the e-MPN.

New freshmen will receive loan entrance information before or when they come to their summer orientation session. If possible, the entrance counseling and the e-MPN should be completed before the student attends the summer orientation session. If not done before, you must complete the e-MPN and online Entrance Interview within two weeks after attending your orientation session.

New transfer students or continuing students who are new borrowers will be notified by mail or email when to complete the above online.

Students who have used a Direct Stafford Loan in previous years and have already signed a Master Promissory Note do not need to do anything else to complete the loan process. If you are a previous Stafford Loan borrower but aren’t sure if you have signed a Master Promissory Note, contact the Student Loan office at 309-677-2616.

If a paper copy of the Master Promissory Note is preferred, please contact the Student Loan department at 309-677-2616 or by e-mail at loans@bradley.edu and one will be provided to you.

Exit Counseling

Federal Regulations require all students who have been the recipient of a Stafford Loan to complete Exit Counseling at the time the student drops below half-time status, leaves school or graduates. Exit Counseling must be completed even if you are transferring to another school or going on graduate school.

The student borrower (not parent) may complete the Exit Counseling online. On-line Exit Counseling is specific to your Direct Loan account. The Exit Counseling will provide the total amount borrowed, interest rate, payment plan options including selecting your payment plan, selecting a billing method and the due date of your monthly payments. Loan consolidation, deferment and forbearances are also covered. You will need your Federal Student Aid PIN number (FAFSA PIN) to complete the Exit Counseling. Any questions regarding Exit Counseling should be directed to the Student Loan Office at 309-677-2616.

New students with questions should contact their Admissions Representative at 1-800-447-6460.

Continuing students should contact the Offices of Financial Assistance (309-677-3089) and Student Fees (309-677-3120).
