Your Award Notification contains at least one of the following sources
of financial assistance. Since all students have individual characteristics
which determine eligibility for specific awards, seldom will an individual

Students with limited family resources as determined by the results of the FAFSA
are provided this federally-funded opportunity to earn "spending money" through
part-time, on-campus employment. Students typically work 8 to 10 hours per
week at minimum wage earning about $1800 per year. Paychecks are issued bi-weekly. Click
here for more information.
Eligibility for work-study does not guarantee you will find a campus
job. However, at the beginning of the Fall Semester, students are encouraged
to attend the annual Part-time Job Fair sponsored by the Smith
Career Center.
Students wishing to work who are not eligible for College Work Study
may be able to find other on-campus employment opportunities.

Perkins Loan
This campus-based federal* loan is awarded to students who demonstrate significant
need as determined by the FAFSA. The average award amount of a Perkins loan
is $1,200 per year. There is no repayment obligation while enrolled in college
at least half time.
The
interest rate
is fixed
at 5%. Quarterly repayment begins shortly
after graduation. Click

and electronic master promissory note. To learn how to complete the process, click

Stafford Loans
At Bradley, Stafford loan recipients borrow directly from the federal* government.
Stafford Loans are either subsidized - meaning no interest is charged before
beginning repayment, or unsubsidized - when interest is charged as the loan
is disbursed. FAFSA results and the amount of other financial aid received
are the two factors that determine eligibility for loan "subsidy". Changes
in your financial assistance may affect the nature of your loan.
While enrolled in college at least half time, there is no repayment
obligation. Six months after dropping below half time you will begin making monthly
payments. As a good rule-of-thumb, figure your monthly payment at about
$11.50 for each $1000 borrowed.
All Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) disbursed between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008 have an interest rate of 6.8%. Undergraduate subsidized Stafford loans disbursed after July 1, 2008 will have applicable interest rates as follows:
| First disbursement of a loan: |
Interest rate on the
unpaid balance |
| Made on or after |
And made before |
| July 1, 2008 |
July 1, 2009 |
6.0% |
| July 1, 2009 |
July 1, 2010 |
5.6% |
| July 1, 2010 |
July 1, 2011 |
4.5% |
| July 1, 2011 |
July 1, 2012 |
3.4% |
Undergraduate unsubsidized Stafford loans will continue to have an interest rate of 6.8%.
Stafford Loan amounts are $3,500 the freshmen year, $4,500 the sophomore year, and $5,500 for the junior and senior years. Additional unsubsidized loans of up to $5,000 are available to undergraduates who meet the FAFSA conditions of independent status or whose parents are denied a PLUS Loan. Graduate students can borrow up to $20,500 per year in subsidized and unsubsidized loans. Effective July 1, 2008 the federal government will deduct 1% from your Stafford loan before it is disbursed. This "origination" fee helps cover the cost of administering this program.
If this is your first time using a Stafford Loan at Bradley, you will
need to complete an entrance interview and promissory note. To learn
how to complete the process, click

State of IL MAP Grant
This state-funded* grant program is available
to qualified Illinois students attending in-state colleges and universities
based upon FAFSA results. Grants range
from $400 to nearly $4,968 per year. Eligibility is determined using
a formula prescribed by the Illinois
Student Assistance Commission. The MAP Grant is restricted to tuition
only.
By applying for financial aid and agreeing to share that information
with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) you have been
considered for the State of Illinois (IL) Monetary Award Program (MAP)
Grant. If you were determined to meet the eligibility criteria, your
grant would be identified as a State of Illinois MAP Grant on your award
notification. MAP grants are limited based on the number of applicants, FAFSA
filing date, and funding levels appropriated by the Illinois General
Assembly. Please be aware that in light of state funding constraints,
reductions to estimated or actual MAP grants are possible.
Eligibility for a MAP grant is based on the equivalent number of semester credit hours of MAP benefits paid on your behalf. This is called MAP Paid Credit Hours. Payment for each term is being made according to the equivalent number of credit hours eligible for MAP payment, with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 15 MAP Paid Credit Hours.
There is a limit on the number of MAP Paid Credit Hours that can be paid while you are classified by your school as a freshman and sophomore. This limit is the equivalent of 75 MAP Paid Credit Hours. If this maximum is reached, you must attain junior status for your MAP grant eligibility to resume. The maximum number of MAP Paid Credit Hours that can be received is capped at 135.
If your award notification includes this source of assistance, the amount of grant is based on a 15 credit hour per semester course load. Semester enrollments of less than 15 credit hours will result in a proportionate reduction of award amounts. For example, your annual MAP Grant for semester enrollments of 12 hours will be 20% less than shown on this notification.
If a State of IL MAP Grant is not included in your award notification, you
are not eligible for the grant at Bradley University.
